Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited, abbreviated as KS&EW, is a Pakistani government defence contractor and military corporation based in West Warf, Karachi, Sindh.
KSEW Limited is Pakistan’s first and only shipyard, offering shipbuilding, ship repair, and general heavy engineering equipment. For the Pakistan Navy, it has built cargo ships, oil tankers, tug boats, support vessels, landing craft, ships, and submarines.
It also builds and repairs for a diverse range of customers in Pakistan, including the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim Authority, and the private sector. The Government of Pakistan owns all of the company’s shares, which are administered by the Ministry of Defence.
It was founded in the mid-1950s as a project of the Pakistan Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), and it was later incorporated as a public limited company in 1957, with its own board of directors and managing director.
It has a large shipbuilding hall, three fabrication blocks, three shipbuilding berths, two dry docks, a machine shop, grit blasting, and painting facilities, a 7881-ton capacity ship lift and transfer system, and 13 parking stations.
